Note that there is no standard to say how a brush's size number should relate to the dimensions of the head. If head size is important, for example if buying a brush to fit in with an existing collection, please see the About brush sizes page.

Kolinsky sable round pointed brushes

Fine points and good paint capacity characterise these round pointed brushes. They are mainly suitable for general watercolour work but they have also been bought by model painters and nail artists.

Brush heads are shown against 2mm/10mm graph paper.

Kolinsky sable rigger (liner) brushes

Long narrow tufts offer excellent paint capacity with the ability to paint lines of even width.

Kolinsky sable flat brushes

Suitable for watercolour or oils, these 'bright' pattern brushes have fine edges and good covering power. The handles are short in the usual style for watercolour brushes.
